Growing up I watched a lot of Jackie Chan movies.
They were amazing! I had fun watching Jackie play “Jackie” in practically every role, jump from a moving bus, onto a boat, over fire, on a motorcycle, while being shot at or dodging sharp objects. The guy was just amazing! There’s that word again. Amazing!
But I can’t help it. That’s what I felt. I always got up feeling so amazing and energized and ready to go, and just so elated at watching this man defeat all odds and survive.
I recall a movie called Who Am I, released in 1998. In this particular film, Jackie couldn’t remember who he was. One day he starts to get chased by “bad guys” and to be honest I don’t remember why they were chasing him, but they were. and somehow, even though he couldn’t remember who he was, he remembered how to fight. YUP, he just knew how to fight. And that’s what he did. He fought EVERYBODY! Amazing right?
Well, fast forward many many years, and this idea of what we innate know, has been following me around. Have you ever wondered why you respond to situations the way you do? Why is it that you are quick to fight or flight? Why do your behaviors seem to get the best of you?
Because you’re Jackie Chan!? No, that’s not it.
Because there are parts of who we are that we haven’t explored yet. Part we don’t know. Parts that unless we do the hard work to understand and dissect, we won’t be able to truly know who we are. And if we don’t know who we are, we just cannot be amazing! Like Jackie.
Let’s try to figure out who we are so many years from now, someone will be writing about us and how amazing we were not because we jumped from moving busses, onto boats, over fires, on motorcycles, while being shot at or dodging sharp objects, but because we know who we are.
Amazing like Jackie Chan.
